Description
This monochrome image, looking west from the Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya over the border to the Serengeti in Tanzania, shows a large afternoon thunderhead with sunlight beaming through breaks in the cloud to the west. Humans evolved in this part of the world and there is definitely something very primal about being out on the East African plains surrounded by wild animals and wild weather.
The Masai Mara National Reserve is in the far east part of Kenya, bordering the Serengeti national park across the line in Tanzania. The grasslands of 'the Mara' support all kinds of wildlife, birds, and reptiles. Many of the migratory species do a great circle annually culminating in the famous Great Migration which features wildebeest and zebras stampeding through the crocodile infested waters of the Mara River.
Image processing and printing information
The photo was shot with a Zeiss Otus 55mm at f/11. It was processed in Photoshop and is equally well-suited for printing on matte, semi-gloss or glossy paper, or on canvas, acrylic, or metal.
