Description
This monochrome image shows the coastal temperature rainforest on the west coast of Vancouver Island. Taken in early-evening on a misty day at the end of June, sunlight was just starting to break through higher level fog, setting up for a spectacular sunset an hour later. The fringe of the coast shown in this image is all within Pacific Rim National Park; the mid-section of the West Coast Trail hugs the coast at this point, near Carmanah Point. The forest ridge lines here are all second growth timber, as all but a few pockets of old growth in the deep valleys cutting to the coast were all logged long ago. Even though it looks primordial, this landscape has, in fact, been completely modified by human use over the past century.
