Description
This female grizzly bear (= brown bear) had stopped on the other side of the creek from where I was shooting and was peering into the water watching for a ripe female chum salmon on the spawning ground. While far smaller than the large males in the area, this bear still is an imposing figure in the monochrome image in the October snow and ice. She was in 'ice bear' mode as the freezing temperature iced up her fur coat each time she was in and out of the water. This image was shot on the banks of the Fishing Branch River, in the very remote an wild Niāiinlii Njik Territorial Park & Wilderness Preserve, better known as Bear Cave Mountain.
Image information
This photo was shot with a 280-mm focal length at f/5.6, a 1/2000 second exposure, and with the camera at 3200 ISO. As with all my photos and digital art, it was processed in Photoshop; I did the monochrome conversion with Nik's Silver Efex Pro.
