About this image.
A humpback whale prepares to dive deep on the steep drop-off along the shore of Quirpon Island, off the northern tip of Newfoundland's Great Northern Peninsula. The spray is from the last blow before the dive.
The Great Northern Peninsula of Newfoundland is one of the most diverse and adventurous areas for photography in North America. It boasts great wildlife (seabirds, wild salmon, marine mammals, and a variety of terrestrial small mammals and big game), rugged scenery, icebergs, and colorful fishing villages.
