Mesa Arch winter dawn metal print by Murray Rudd. Bring your artwork to life with the stylish lines and added depth of a metal print. Your image gets printed directly onto a sheet of 1/16" thick aluminum. The aluminum sheet is offset from the wall by a 3/4" thick wooden frame which is attached to the back. Artist's Description
Like many photographers, I have been to the Moab a number of times. I have only had the patience to actually photograph Mesa Arch once though, on a winter day at the end of 2016. I have lots of patience when it comes to light, very little when it comes to obnoxious photographers at dawn!
The Arch is an international icon and one of the most photographed locations in the world. As such, it's hard to get a good shot, especially with the crowds jockeying for tripod position.
On this winter day, I went to the Arch 2 hours before sunrise, bundled up in winter down and with a big thermos of coffee. I arrived first and had a wonderful 45-minutes alone in silence before the next photographers arrived.
I did not go for the sunburst that most people try, but positioned my camera to the right to get the La Sal mountains and cliff faces in the image for the pre-sunrise dawn light.
