Description
About this image
While the rest of the pride was snoozing, this bored lion cub was eyeing up the scratching tree. This monochrome image was taken before even reaching my lodge on the drive into the Masai Mara National Reserve, Kenya, in 2017. A large pride was beside the gravel track and a number of cubs were sleeping in the middle of the road. This is one of my personal favorite lion images.
Image information
This photo was shot with a 560-mm focal length lens at f/5.6, 1/200 second shutter speed, and with the camera at 100 ISO. As with all my photos and digital art, it was processed in Photoshop; I used Silver Efex Pro for the monochrome conversion, which emulates old school 400 ISO black and white film (with a little film grain). The image has a 5x4 aspect ratio. This image is best-suited for printing on rag (matte) paper or stretched canvas finishes.

Thank you Marilyn. No, there was nothing of interest up the tree - the cub was just so, so bored with the pride all sleeping that I think any possible diversion was a consideration then. I actually would not have been surprised if it would have marched right over to where my truck was.

Such an adorable capture and I'm wondering what is he looking at! Something surely has his attention!
